Welcome

I would like to extend a warm welcome to everybody who visits the Meadow this season, be it players, umpires or supporters. I hope you have an enjoyable day and competitive, sporting cricket to savour. I think all who visit will agree that the ground looks a picture and please help us keep it that way by taking litter away!!

As many will know we have been trying to obtain planning permission for a new pavilion for some years now. Unfortunately our local Council and our elected officials don’t seem to want to support us, with one or two notable exceptions. It seems the problem is that we should not be allowed a function room and should reduce considerably the size of our bar facilities. This is clearly ludicrous as the pavilion has had these facilities on this site for more than a 100 years and no town cricket club can function without these basic facilities. I am pleased to say that the Committee has agreed to appeal to the Secretary of State, our legal advice is very positive of a successful outcome, so please watch this space.

Our junior section is going great guns with up to 350 boys and girls playing cricket at Chesham, my thanks go to all the coaches and organisers who give freely of their time to make it all work. Please support them in their efforts as our children are getting coaching of a very high standard. It is a real pleasure to see the club so vibrant with many boys and girls playing representative cricket at their respective age groups and others just enjoying playing the game. We have a strong policy of excellence coupled with participation for all, a difficult concept to put in practice but one that is at the heart of our club’s philosophy.
We are now running 4 senior Saturday teams and 1 /2 Sunday XI’s, we always welcome new players of all standards so please just turn up to the relevant practice night, seniors Wednesday evening and make yourself known.

All voluntary clubs need sponsors and we are no exception, I would like to thank Out of Term who runs cricket coaching courses for children, Psimetrix who do all our IT making our web site one of the best in the country, Sports Match, Chance to Shine, Awards for All and the MCC foundation who have helped, or are helping, us deliver our comprehensive community youth programme in most schools in Chesham, all our advertising board sponsors who are listed separately in this handbook and also our leading club sponsor CG Capital Limited, asset finance division. Without external sponsorship no voluntary funded organisation can exist, thank you all for your continued support.

Have a great season, stay healthy and enjoy yourselves, Come on Chesham!!
